Welcome to Waterloo Mennonite Brethren Church.

WMB Church has existed as a faith community for over 40 years. We are committed to strengthening our faith, individually and corporately, through the teachings of the Bible and a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.

church1.jpgWMB Church began as a Sunday School outreach effort and formally became a Church on January 1, 1967 with 25 charter members. The first phase of construction was completed at our current location in April 1973, and our present sanctuary was completed in the summer of 1989.

When WMB started, the vision was simply to impact the northeast corner of Waterloo with the love of Jesus Christ. Since then, the WMB Church's mission of "...making more and better disciples..." has become the focus of all that we do.

With congregation membership of 500 and an average attendance of1000 per weekend, WMB Church is comprised of a diverse group of people with different faith and experiential backgrounds.

Throughout the past several years, WMB has transitioned from calling people to "come" to church (a building), to equipping and training people to go and "be" the Church (a living organism) in their community. This is what is referred to as being "missional".

A missional church:

  • is one where people are exploring and rediscovering what it means to be Jesus' sent people as their identity and vocation,
  • knows that they must be a cross-cultural missionary people in their own community,
  • will be engaged with the culture (in the world) without being absorbed by the culture (not of the world),
  • seeks to put the good of their neighbour above their own,
  • is a healing community where people carry each other's burdens and help restore gently,
  • will see themselves as representatives of Jesus and see that growth in discipleship is expected,
  • will be dependant on prayer and will feed deeply on scripture throughout the week so they are ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why they're living the way they are,
  • is orthodox in its view of the Gospel and Scripture,
  • seeks to be culturally relevant in its methods and practice so that it can engage the world.

We are excited about what God has in store for WMB in our local, national and global community in the years ahead.
