Worship & the Arts

“There is no one in this world who is not, at this moment, at worship in one way or another, consciously or unconsciously, formally or informally, passively or passionately.”  Harold Best

Dean Emeritus, Wheaton College Conservatory of Music,
& author of "Unceasing Worship"

As human beings created in the image of God, the desire to worship is part of the fabric of our nature - it is the “gods” that we each change up from time to time. Worship is about what we give our time, energy and devotion to. WMB’s Worship and the Arts Ministry seeks to align artists with their calling and mission to be servants of Jesus, the Servant King. Out of changed and changing lives, our talents and our art are transformed to their primary purpose of honouring our Creator.

On Sunday mornings, this often involves (but is not limited to) songs, spoken word, drama, and visuals. Teams both lead and get out of the way when we participate in corporate worship.

Monday to Saturday, well, we are digging deeper into that discussion. WMB seeks to inspire and equip those with artistic imagination to a broader calling to be true to who God made us, and to engage our diverse culture through the arts during the week. This may mean singing in a pub at a Tuesday open mic night, offering dance classes after school to those who could not otherwise afford it on Thursday, doing crafts at a nursing home on Saturday morning, or creating songs in your bedroom on a Sunday afternoon.

Getting Involved
We have a number of places where people are currently involved in the arts at WMB: drama, audio (sound), visual (video projection unit, video, lighting), music teams and digital photography. We are also a church that is looking to engage our neighbourhoods, cities and world through the creative use of the arts. Having opportunities for everyone is a challenge at times, but we are committed to having conversations to explore where people, individually and collectively, can be released to partner with God.

The ultimate goal of Worship and the Arts is to realize, redeem and reclaim places where God’s beauty, justice, love can be seen resonating from His children. Will you join us?
