With: Wycliffe Bible Translators
What: Bible translation and language development among the Turka people.
Where: Burkina Faso, West Africa
Our Missions Story:
The tour of scripture promotion that our Turka colleagues are engaged in has been focused on interactive Bible teaching using an oral Bible study technique called “Simply the Story”. This technique, by design, draws every person into discussion, grappling with the meaning of the Bible story and drawing personal application. In addition to the interactive Bible teaching, a literacy component is also built into the program. The fact that the study is conducted orally has been liberating for everyone involved, and Foromine and Jeremy have seen some unsung heroes really shine. For example, in the village of Moussodougou, a blind woman named Mariam found herself participating in Bible studies for the first time in her life. This devout woman of prayer is quietly unassuming, but she had much insight to offer throughout the daily Bible studies.
Our Prayer Items:
- For several years now, Dot has been experiencing neurological problems which affect her mobility. Despite having seen several specialist, a diagnosis eludes us. Please pray that a neurologist will take a special interest in her case and pursue this "interesting case" until some answers are found.
- Pray for the Turka believers that they would grow in their love for God, for one another, and for their communities. Pray that God would raise up leaders in their midst who would serve their people in teaching God's Word.
- Pray for the newly formed translation committee, that God would direct their ways as they ponder how to best serve the largely illiterate Christian community with oral Bible tools.
