This theme permeates our youth ministry vision. Our dream is that youth will experience God in the midst of their hands-on experiences in the community, in the inner cities and in the world. We hope they will discover where He is at work and will find the courage to serve Him there and wherever they are.

From the summer of 2009 to the time we left for Ecuador, I struggled with my faith in God. I wasn't sure how I lost such a good connection or how to get it back, and honestly I couldn't have cared less. Even preparing for Ecuador was a last minute thing. I knew the trip would be good for me because lately I'd been feeling empty...I missed being full of joy. The first week there, I heard heart breaking testimonies...at least for everyone else. I just kinda sat and said "That's sad." I wasn't affected by anything at all and I couldn't figure out why.

My time in Quito, Ecuador was an absolutely wonderful, meaningful, & very powerful experience. I felt everything from utter bewilderment and sadness at the many stories of tragedy and despair from the Ecuadorian people of all ages to sheer awe & delight, at how these same people can & do believe in the amazing, redeeming power of their Almighty Saviour. What I learned from all the stories we heard, both the Ecuadorian & Canadian testimonies, brought me to my knees before my God & Saviour and resulted in a fresh new level of my own faith & trust in

Discovering What We Lack

During March break, I had an opportunity to go to Ecuador on a mission trip. In Quito, the capital city, slums dominate, stray dogs exist on every street corner and walls topped with broken glass or nails frame the city streets. Most of the city seemed to be held together by pure will, from the one room shack resting on the side of a mountain, to a wall leaning so far over it doesn’t feel safe to walk beside. The contrast between the North American world and Ecuador is enormous.

Learning Life Skills

Yesterday we discovered life skills. We went to the Eaton Centre Mall. We were asked to simply connect with people. The sum of Living In Faith Everyday is to stay in prayer, and faithfully work to make someone else’s day. With this perspective, to serve people as if they were Jesus, social and cultural habits melt away.

I LOVE Toronto, so spending a week here loving the WMB youth and the people of this city has been a joyful experience. I appreciate the rhythms of life in TO and I have definitely been challenged and encouraged while serving amongst the city's poor. God is at work here! I see Hope in this city and in the faces of many of our houseless brothers and sisters. I am always struck by how we are much more similar than we are different. Our acts of arrogance, and pride, self hatred and abuse stem from the same core need - to know that we are the Beloved.
