Community Initiatives
Serve Local! Barnabas Missions partners with organizations in our community to serve individuals and families who struggle financially. Here are some opportunities to serve in and around KW:
Kingscourt Community
Barnabas Missions partners with Shamrock Co-op and Waterloo Region Housing to build community in a local neighourhood. Become involved through: homework club, weekly childrens sports time, after school program, or particpate in one-time events such as tax clinics, First Aid course or community BBQ.
Out of the Cold
Out of the Cold provides a meal and shelter for Kitchener-Waterloo’s homeless population during the winter months. WMB supports the work of regular sites as well as providing space during April as sites close down.
How to serve: During the winter months (Nov-Mar) we serve on Wednesday nights at St. Matthew’s Church, and other church locations need volunteers each night of the week as well. During April you can serve with WMB’s program.
Ray of Hope Community Centre (ROHCC)
WMB provides a meal six Sundays/year following the worship service at the Ray of Hope Community Centre in downtown Kitchener. We prepare, serve and clean up the meal in February, April, June, August, October and December. This event runs from 1 pm – 6:30 pm. ROHCC also invites volunteer groups to prepare and serve dinner meals during the week.
Supportive Housing of Waterloo (SHOW)
SHOW offers new homes and new hope to 30 tenants at 362 Erb Street West who previously lived on the street. Serve by interacting with tenants, helping with fundraising and other special projects during the year.
