Manuscript Study
At WMB Church, we are very excited to offer Manuscript Bible Study as a way to study scripture together! Through these studies, we are given the opportunity to engage scripture in order to encounter Jesus Christ himself, who invites us to “follow him”.
As we discover Jesus through the biblical text, we are challenged to think about his message in new ways. Beliefs and assumptions are checked, especially regarding what it means to be a Christ-follower, and what a community of his followers should be like. We are invited to consider the Kingdom of God in our neighbourhoods, city and world, and to understand Christ’s mission in our world today.
Manuscript study is very interactive. We gather as one large group together in one room, but we sit around table groups of six or seven. Each table has a table leader who has experienced manuscript study before. Their role is to help guide the discoveries and discussion around the table, as we observe, interpret and apply the text. Large group facilitators guide the whole group collectively and help us explore the text and its context and give the table groups direction. All ages are invited to participate, from teens to adults, with specific tables provided for Junior and Senior Youth and their leaders.
As a missional church, we think it’s important that we have opportunities to engage scripture and learn from it together; to listen to the Holy Spirit lead us as a community; and to accept one another’s perspectives as important. Something unique and special happens when we learn from one another through honest questions and best insights.
We know many have never experienced a study like this before. That can leave us apprehensive about trying it! Just know that we are all journeying together with one heart—to discover more fully the difference Jesus makes. We believe we discover this best when we journey together, and that includes you!
