Nicodemus - An Encounter with Jesus   Karen West

Sometimes, what we think we know and fully understand just isn't so...  because our perspectives are slightly askew, or perhaps, totally wrong! Such was the case for a man named Nicodemus, who believed that the way to God was through keeping the rules of Jewish law. Methods about God became more important than encounters with God. This can happen with religion. And then, one day, he had an encounter with Jesus, and was forever changed.

Do we have rules and methods about God in the contemporary church which hinder us and others from encounters with him? What might they be?

An Undignified Worshipper     Paul McIlwraith

King David wasn't afraid to let go of his inhibitions and worship God publicly when the Ark of the Covenant returned home. He became an undignified worshipper. What is it that stymies our uninhibited worship of God? Is worship only about singing and dancing? What does it mean to worship God with our lives everyday? May we be challenged to become undignified worshippers in the way we live our lives everyday for Him!

Faith - More Questions than Answers - Paul McIlwraith

The author of Hebrews 11, in the Bible, gives a glowing report of various people of Biblical history and commends them for their faith.
I used to feel frustrated when I read this passage of scripture. I felt so faithless compared to their steadfastness and obedience. Then I realized that their stories are recorded in more detail throughout scripture and their faith and obedience only grew as God engaged them in their fear, listened to their frustrations and grew their faith to a point that they were able to do all that was asked of them. It is in our engagement with God, our questions, doubts and fears, that He is able to grow our faith as well.
May you be encouraged as you look at these passages from this perspective.

Are You Willing?  Susanna Muntz, Global Outreach Director

Can God do it? It's a question we often ask ourselves. But perhaps there's an even deeper question. One we tend to avoid: ‘Is He willing?' It pushes on our insecurities and questions God's intentions towards us. Through looking at an encounter that Jesus had with the lowest of the low in society we will explore the question ‘Are You Willing?' and perhaps recognize it coming from both our hearts AND from God's.

When Troubles Come, Hold Your Position  - Karen West

The story of the Israelite people in 2 Chronicles 20 gives clear direction on how to deal with the difficulties we face in life. God's people didn't question why God was allowing a calamity to come upon them. Instead, they responded in faith even when they had every reason to believe their world was being completely shaken.  Typically, struggles cause us to either fight with everything we have, or run and hide as fast as we can! Yet, ‘holding our positions' when troubles come is the journey God calls us to embrace. And we can worship him even now, with a confidence that our ‘sureness' for the future is God himself, who calls us to faith beyond the ordinary.
