Staying the Course - Paul McIlwraith

In the Bible, there is a short letter sent from a mentor to his protégé. The mentor is imprisoned, and facing the very real prospect of martyrdom for his faith.

In his final words to his student and friend, this man encourages him to remain faithful to his calling as a leader in the church - even in the midst of strife and opposition. The Apostle Paul's final words to Timothy found in 2 Timothy, are a challenge and encouragement to "Stay the Course and Keep the Faith". They were words of life and hope to Timothy in his day, and they remain powerful words to us in our culture today.

Out of the Blocks - Karen West
(2 Timothy 1:1-7)

Do you sometimes feel that life has set before you a race that is too difficult to run? ...that you don't have what it takes to manage the road that lies ahead? ...that you'd far rather run away from the race, than into it?

You are not alone!  Timothy had fears like this, too!  In this letter, the Apostle Paul writes to Timothy to encourage him in his faith, and to remind him that everything he needs to run the race before him, he already has ‘in Christ'.  As followers of Jesus, we are not given a "spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline", so we can, in his strength, get out of the starting blocks, and run!  May God's Word remind you of his activity in your race, so you can stay the course, and keep the faith.

Hitting Your Stride - Paul McIlwraith

Pace is such a key component of the activity of our lives. When the pace is too much, we become overburdened and stressed but when the pace is set at a reasonable tempo it can be invigorating! The Apostle Paul looked to Jesus to set the pace of his life and in a sense, he was a pace setter for young leaders like Timothy. In this message, Hitting Your Stride, discover how significant it is to have pace setters in our life that keep us focused on the goal of living a purposeful, vibrant life for Jesus.

Keeping your Focus - Marv Franz

There are times in life when we need someone to help us focus on what is truly important. We need trusted friends to look us in the eye and tell us point blank what our priorities should be.  Paul's words written in 2 Timothy 2:1-7 to Timothy were those kind of words. Consider how might help focus you.

A Fork in the Road - Paul McIlwraith

Have you ever come to a "fork in the road" as you have traveled by car, bicycle or by foot? Have you ever had to make a decision, before you took another step forward, either to go to the right or the left? Many times in our life journey, we come to a point where we have a choice which pathway we will go down.

Timothy had come to a fork in the road of his leadership in the church in first century Ephesus. He had some decisions to make as he lead through persecution and adversity. But he wasn't alone in his journey, his mentor Paul continued to be his cheerleader from afar, exhorting him to continue the race, keeping his eyes on the finish line and he would run the race of his life well. This passage of scripture was an encouragement to Timothy and it is to us as well, as we run the race of our lives focused on Jesus.
