Looking Back, Looking Forward - Susanna Muntz & Jake Martin
When was the last time you remembered to... remember?
With Psalm 77 as a guide, we'll take time to consider this past year. Where were places of felt distance from God? When did you experience the nearness of God? Through both suffering and rescue, we'll consider what it means to become aware of oneself and to address God with honesty, persistance and faith. -

Hope in the Shadows: "Foreshadows" Paul McIlwraith speaking
"After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod", is the way the birth of Jesus begins in the gospel of Matthew. We have often focused on Jesus' birth in Bethlehem and skipped over the era in which he was born; it was in the time of King Herod.
Jesus and King Herod shared the same page history. Jesus was born literally in the shadow of Herod and the way each of them lived and "reigned" further served to contrast the kingdoms they each represented. The manger of Jesus broke through the shadow of the Herodian to bring Hope into the world. The Hope we celebrate and remember at Christmas. -

Overshadowing - Beyond a Shadow of Doubt Karen West
Who would ever think that the Creator of the Universe would come to earth as a baby? That he would give up all the power of heaven in order to be our Saviour... our Messiah? Christmas reminds us of God's great, unimaginable love... for us. How remarkable that, in a town on the outskirts, Nazareth of Galilee, God announced the salvation of the world. That ‘insignificant' Nazareth was chosen as the place where God's own Son would be raised after his birth in Bethlehem. And how incredible that this news came first to Mary-a young, unknown girl, with no worldly status in her day. Luke 1:26-38 reminds us that God works in ordinary places, through ordinary people, and brings extraordinary outcomes. He has YOU on his heart. He is WITH you. He overshadows you with his great love, this day.

Breaking Through the Darkness - Paul McIlwraith
Christmas is so many big and wonderful things that we sometimes forget how small and mysterious was the beginning. Two thousand years ago, in the midst of darkness, the light of God broke through. The Messiah, the anointed one, Jesus was born and THE Christmas story is our hope and our reminder that God continues to work in the shadows of our lives - to bring light and life to our world as well. This is hope... in the Shadows.
