“Unexpected… Who are you looking for?"     Karen West

Hope… It’s one thing to talk about it. It’s another thing to live it.  Hope is something we need when life is difficult… when we face unknowns… when something has happened in the present that is robbing us of our belief for the future.  Hope is only hope when it meets us in the empty ‘tombs’ of our lives, today.

John 20:1-18 takes us on a journey of hope through an encounter Mary Magdalene had with Jesus, after his crucifixion.  She was searching for Jesus’ body, which was missing from the tomb.  Weeping, Mary was so stuck in her grief that she was unable even to recognize the resurrected Jesus standing in front of her!  Grief has a way of doing that to us – of blinding us to the life that God breathes into even our darkest moments.  Mary went to the tomb that day expecting only ‘death’, but after encountering Jesus, she left with a new message to share – a message of life and hope.

God redeems and breathes life into every circumstance we face when we believe in the name of Jesus.  Are you looking for this Jesus?  The Jesus of Hope?

When is Enough, Enough?  Paul McIlwraith

Forgiveness is a topic that stirs so many emotions in all of us. Jesus came and ushered in a new kingdom and a new way of thinking about forgiveness in this kingdom. How many times do you forgive some one who hurts you? Three times? Seven times?

In Matthew 18, Jesus teaches that forgiveness is all about the condition of the heart through the parable of the "Unforgiving Debtor". A person who has truly accepted forgiveness offered to them can in turn forgive others as a natural expression of life in the kingdom. It is what Jesus as called us to as we Journey with Him.

Unexpected... Inturruption?   Karen West

Events unfold in Mark 5:21-43 that weave together the stories of two people coming to Jesus - the synagogue ruler, Jairus, and an ‘unnamed' woman.  Both are desperate for hope and healing; both believe a touch from Jesus could save them; both push through their deepest fears as they fall at Jesus' feet.  But this is really all they have in common.  One is a religious leader, with status, position and power; the other an outcast in her own community.  Jairus, who comes to Jesus first with a desperate need in his family, watches and waits as Jesus directs his attention first on the needs of the woman.  The unexpected interruption becomes a demonstration of belief and faith, which, rather than being a distraction, actually becomes the source of healing, wholeness and restoration beyond what any would imagine!
Jesus is interested in bringing this same ‘shalom' and restoration in the difficult situations of our lives too, as we come to him in belief, humility and faith.
