From Building Walls to Building Bridges - Paul McIlwraith
Have you ever noticed today how many churches operate in isolation as if on an island? We build walls of safety and security around us and then invite our world to try and maneuver around our obstacles to "come to church".
It is time we return to the original plan for the church, to build bridges to our community. To make a difference in our world by engaging and going to "them" as the transforming agents that Jesus called us to be....salt and light. -

The Altered Call - Karen West
Throughout the ages, people have gathered weekly around the common mission and purpose of God - the ‘good news' of Jesus Christ. How well do we understand that mission as given to us by Jesus himself? Luke 4 gives us Jesus' description of ‘good news' - words he quotes from Isaiah 61 - about freedom for the oppressed. Jesus speaks of this gospel lived out among strangers, ‘outsiders', and even enemies.
Is this the gospel we have claimed as Christians today, or have we made our own version of it...? How is God inviting us to embrace an ‘altered call' and be ‘good news' among our neighbours today? -

From Serve Us to Service - Paul McIlwraith
The Good News of Jesus, the Gospel of Jesus, His message of hope, release, love and faith has to be accompanied by action. Take away service and you take away the Church's true effectiveness.
The real power of the Gospel - the evangelical edge - is combining His life changing message with selfless service to our world. Good News with good deeds - the message lived out!! That is what it is to move from a "serve us" Church to one that humbly serves. -

From Stranger to Neighbour - Susanna Muntz, Global Outreach Director
1 in every 200 people in the world is a Refugee. Fleeing violence. Separated from their nation. Looking for hope and for someone to care and welcome them as a brother or sister. As we study Deuteronomy 10:12-22, and hear the story of a refugee from Rwanda, we hope to hear God's heart for the stranger, the wanderer, the refugee. We begin to see that we are all strangers to someone. We all need to be welcomed, cared for and told that we belong.

From Condemning to Blessing - Paul McIlwraith
It seems that for too long, we as the Church have almost positioned ourselves as adversaries to our communities. At times, we have stood from afar and condemned the city and those who are trying to serve it. Maybe it is time we began blessing the city by becoming involved in working for its' prosperity and peace. And maybe, just maybe the church needs to begin praying for and blessing those who have given themselves to the city.
