The Wall The Wall

What this city needs is....", "I can't believe...", "If I were you, I would...".
Our society is ripe with gripers, complainers and arm chaired quarterbacks. It is easy to scrutinize and talk about all the problems in the world but what we really need is less talking and more action - people who would be willing to do something about it!!

In the Bible, the Old Testament talks about such a man.  His name was Nehemiah. When he became aware of a desperate situation, he was driven to tears, driven to his knees in prayer and then driven to take action! He left his well paying, prestigious job and followed what God wanted him to do - lead the Jewish people in repairing and restoring the walls around the city of Jerusalem.  But we have to wonder:  was it really only about a construction project, or did God have something more in mind for Nehemiah and His people? Join us in this series on the book of Nehemiah entitled, "The Wall".  Come prepared to be surprised by what God may have in store for you, for His church and for our cities.

A Room with a View A Room with a View

March is a busy time in our Canadian society. The weather is warming, the clocks turn ahead an hour and the chocolate eggs and bunnies have made their annual appearance in malls and grocery stores.

Easter has arrived early this year and churches in our communities prepare to mark this most holy remembrance in the Christian calendar. So, what is our perspective of the Cross of Jesus this Easter Season, 2008? Join us for this three part series, "A Room with a View", as we explore some of the biblical texts that journey with Jesus and those around him just before his crucifixion, at his death and after his resurrection. How did those who were with Jesus view his life and death then and how do we view it today? What is our perspective of Easter in  "A Room with a View?"

Everyone wants to be "happy" and it seems that in our culture we make chasing this ideal of happiness our life long pursuit. We spend money, collect things, search for newer, more exhilarating experiences but if happiness is all about circumstances, what happens when the new cars rust, the cruise ends, loved ones die, our health deteriorates, our money is stolen and the party ends? Often happiness flees and despair sets in.

In contrast to happiness is Joy. It runs stronger and deeper in our lives and as Christ followers, joy comes from the assurance that God is at work in our lives. The book of Philippians in the Bible is the Apostle Paul's Joy letter to the church at Philippi. Join us in this series as we explore together how Paul could be joyful and content no matter what the circumstances in his life, and the learnings we can glean from his letter today as individuals and the broader church community.

Journey with Jesus Journey with Jesus
14

As you read the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, have you ever tried to "jump" into the story to really seek to understand and experience all that is going on? How does Jesus' life, teaching and interactions with others impact you as you journey through your life? We believe that when we look at scripture in this way, it helps us to recognize that Jesus is in our midst even now, breaking down barriers, offering freedom in the place of oppression so that we may understand the fullness of his mission.

Join us in the series "Journey with Jesus", as we follow Jesus into some of his interactions with people described through the gospels, are invited into His mission and experience the kingdom of God coming near to us.

The Altered Call
5

Change. Why is it that we seem so adverse to change? In the book of Luke, we see Jesus sending his followers out into the world with a certain set of instructions in Luke 10 and then in Luke 22, the instructions are tweaked a little bit. Why? Things have changed. The culture has changed in the three years Jesus ministered and some adjustments needed to be made.

The winds of change continue for the Church as we head into the 3rd millennium. There is a growing awareness that we can’t keep doing the same old things and expect the results to be different. If we are going to continue to be “salt and light” to the world as Jesus called us, the church will have to do something different, we have to be something different! Join us in this series as we study scripture and our culture to discern how we, as Christ followers, can continue to make a significant and sustainable difference in our neighbourhoods, cities and world.

Staying the Course - Keeping the Faith

marathon_1.gifStaying the Course... Keeping the Faith
an 8-week run in the book of 2 Timothy

There are a series of letters written by the Apostle Paul to churches and individuals in the New Testament of the Bible. Second Timothy is a tender letter written by Paul, now imprisoned for his faith and near death, to one of his most devoted followers, Timothy. It is a letter of encouragement and support to a young follower of Jesus to stay the course even in the midst of opposition. Paul reminds Timothy of all that he has come to know as truth and gently and passionately implores him to keep the faith in his teaching, preaching and living. It was a timely letter to Timothy in his context and it continues to challenge and encourage Jesus followers in our faith today.

Join us as we open this letter and explore the premise for "Staying the course and Keeping the faith" in our lives today.

I AM

During his brief time on earth, Jesus made many bold and incredible statements about the culture, the people and his Ministry.  Some of his more radical comments, though, were reserved for things that he said about Himself. In the book of John, we see that many of these statements were prefaced by the words, “I am…”. Join us for our message series, “I AM - Jesus” and discover how Jesus’ self revelation unveils the majestic attributes of our incarnate God.

What's Up?

The culture of  "church" has become synonymous with words, rituals and observances that generally have meaning and significance to those with a "churched" background, but are relatively obscure to a growing number of people in our society searching for spiritual truth.
Join us for our fall kick off series, What's Up.... as we deconstruct some "christianese" terms and practices, and challenge our church community to engage the 21st century world with sincerity and passion.

The Word on the Street

“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood.”
John 1:14 (The Message)

The greatest gift we can offer to others at Christmas is not something we purchase.

It is the gift of an encounter with Jesus through us. We share this gift by allowing God’s Word to live through us in our relationships with our families and our neighbours. You are invited to join us at WMB Church this Christmas Season as we discover the Hope that is available to all through “The Word on the Street”.
God So Loves

Mention the name Jonah to most people and the first thought that comes to mind is, a Whale!!!
But, if this is all we get from reading the Old Testament book of Jonah, its overall theme may swim right by us.

In four short chapters, the theme of “God’s love” prevails. God SO loves his people that he calls them, he pursues them, he forgives them and he provides the remedy for angry and unforgiving hearts. As you listen to our Jonah series, discover that “God SO Loves Us”.
Waterloo Regional Worship Network
1
The Waterloo Region Worship Network began in December of 2002 as four people got together to share about worship in their churches, successes, frustrations, and how worship leaders specifically could support one another in prayer. The group has expanded to over 20 churches and as many as 40 people attend every two months.

Reasons and Benefits for Meeting Together: 1) To pray for each other and worship together 2) To support each other and share songs, music, conference information etc. via e-mail 3) To help facilitate region-wide worship celebrations 4) To help facilitate local worship conferences 5) To build relationships among the worship leaders of Waterloo Region.
