What Does it Mean to be Sent? Paul McIlwraith
Mission is all about Jesus sending his followers dependent, vulnerable yet focused. As Christ followers this is our mandate. We are to embody the upside kingdom that Jesus ushered in. That is... "to proclaim good news for the poor, freedom for the prisoners, sight for the blind and release for the oppressed" (Luke 4:18). Jesus sent his early followers into the towns and cities that He intended to go to, and today he is sending us to these places as well.
That is what it means to be sent in our world today. -

Desert Storm - Paul McIlwraith
Have you ever wondered why Jesus had to face off with Satan in the Desert before He began His ministry? It is one of the most significant encounters in the New Testament and because of Jesus' victory over this temptation, there was a shift in power of global proportions. Soon after, Jesus began His ministry and because of His mission of Hope, humanity could have expectations, great expectations for their lives. Welcome to Desert Storm! -

Anticipating... Encounters with Jesus - Paul McIlwraith
In the first century, Jesus entered into life with his community. He taught with wisdom and authority that no one had ever seen before; He loved with words and actions and He invited people into this new life. He turned the code of this society upside down and many found His message hard to swallow. His gospel was an "inconvenient truth", to the hearers in His day and to us, today. How do we respond to His timeless message of Hope... with fear and skepticism or do we anticipate an encounter with Jesus?

Freedom - Paul McIlwraith
The Gospel. Many of us have heard this phrase often but do we truly know what it means or what it is? In Luke 4, Jesus begins his public ministry with a message, a proclamation of His gospel to his hometown. Unfortunately, they rejected it because it seemed too ridiculous, it just wasn't what they were expecting. He flipped everything they had ever known "upside down". What is our reaction to the good news of Jesus today? Are we open to hearing the message that he has for us or are we like the Nazarenes... sceptical because it just doesn't make sense?
