Uncovered Treasures: Onesimus & Philemon - Karen West
Onesimus and Philemon are two individuals in the bible with very different ‘personal power' from the world's perspective - one a slave, and the other a master. But the Apostle Paul reminds us that, in Christ, God sees them as equals. He calls Philemon to use his status in society, not to advance himself, but to give Onesimus equal status. God is at work to redeem the power structures of our world, and it begins in each of our relationships. Where do we have personal power that we can use, not to advance ourselves, but to build-up and empower others? -

Uncovered Treasures: Mary Magdalene - Paul McIlwraith
Although only mentioned periodically in the New Testament, Mary Magdalene became a central character and witness to the death and resurrection of Jesus. She herself experienced the grace of God in an amazing conversion story and she remained a true and faithful servant of her Rabbi, Jesus for the rest of her life. Although looked on in her culture as a second class citizen, God chose to use the life of Mary Magdalene to bear witness to his love and grace and resurrection power.
