Who We Are
People in process… changing, learning, growing, falling, failing, learning again. Frankly, we are a piece of work! We are people of faith and doubt, conviction and compromise, starts and stops. We live in the hopeful tension between where we are now and where we believe God is calling us to be in the future.
People on a journey… discovering and writing a local and global story of faith, hope and love in the way of Jesus. Our trek is centered on following Jesus and the Gospel of His Kingdom. We are striving to be missional: sent to incarnate the Gospel in our neighbourhoods, cities and world. We desire to be ‘Good News’ among our neighbours.
People of diversity... coming together! We long to come and go as an inter-generational and inter-racial community of faith. We are young and old, male and female, with unique stories, different family and economic backgrounds, education, careers, backgrounds, skills, talents and disabilities – all of which enrich our sense of belonging and mission.
Our History
In 1960, Waterloo Mennonite Brethren Church (WMB) began with a small group of people with prayerful imagination and faith. Their dream was to “impact the northeast corner of Waterloo with the love of Jesus Christ.” Over the years, God has been faithfully writing his ‘love story’ through this community of faith, taking us down various roads, pathways and detours. It’s been a humbling and exciting journey!
Throughout the past several years, a new chapter in our story has been unfolding. WMB has transitioned from calling people to come to church (a building) to also equipping and training people to go and be the Church (a living organism) in our community. This missional call is reflected in our mission, vision and values.
