Baptism & Membership

We believe membership at WMB can be described in one word: Commitment. Our vision at WMB is to Glorify God by Gathering in community, Growing in our faith and Giving of ourselves and our resources so that we may Go into the world and build relationships that offer the Hope and Grace of Jesus Christ.

What it means to be a Member
We believe membership at WMB can be described in one word: commitment.  At WMB, we recognize the need for formal membership. We ask you to commit to membership for four reasons:

  1. A Biblical Reason: Christ is committed to the church. “…Christ loved the church, and He gave His life for it.” (Ephesians 5:25)
  2. A Cultural Reason: It is an antidote to our society. We live in an age where very few want to be committed to anything…a job…marriage…our country. This attitude has even produced a generation of “church shoppers and hoppers.” Membership swims against the current of “consumer religion.” It is an unselfish decision. Commitment always builds character.
  3. A Practical Reason: It defines who can be counted on. Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrolment. Every business has a payroll. Every army has enlistment. Even our country takes a census and requires voter registration. Membership identifies our family.
  4. A Personal Reason: It produces spiritual growth. The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. In becoming a member of a local church, we formalize our commitment to Christ and to one another.

Steps to Baptism and Membership
We ask that you attend WMB for 6 months prior to becoming a member.

  1. Discovering WMB...Church as Community - A course to introduce adults to who we are, what we believe, where God has taken us, and where we are going. Youth Ministries holds a separate baptism class, called Booyah Basics, specifically for teens.
  2. Membership Interviews - A personal interview to share your testimony with a member of our Leadership Board.
  3. Baptism and Membership Celebration - A special service to hear new members' life stories and witness their baptism.

Please contact the Church Office (office [at] waterloomb [dot] org) to sign up for the next "Discovering WMB". Youth contact Pete Olsen to be a part of Booyah Basics.
